It All Adds Up
I took computer programming as an elective my senior year of high school. I loved it to the point that I went into college declared as a computer science major. And then I took a Java class and had a terrible time with calculus.
But while I was taking Java and Calculus 1, I also took Psychology. And that's what I dnd up graduating in.
Of course, that took me several years. In 2013, BYUI apparently DID have the I/O emphasis, but I hadn't heard of it. In fact, I only found it when I was looking at changing my major so I wouldn't have to complete an internship and I could finally be done! But in my last few weeks, my faculty mentor suggested that I go to graduate school. He was my faculty mentor because I was an Industrial/ Organizational student.
Now, three weeks before graduation would be the end of November. The deadline to apply for this program is January 15 - at least the easiest gasoline to find on the website.
I stayed looking at school psychology and found educational psychology. And then I found Instructional Psychology.
But with the deadline coming up so fast, even if I had perfect vision, it would have been impossible to make that deadline. Compound that with the fact that I didn't know about this program, there were no testing centers near BYUI and I had to get accommodations.
I also have a background in teaching, business and a little experience with different schools. (I'm only on my fourth college.) I have a background in business as well as psychology. I love learning. I love being to know people and urging to problem solve and find ways to help them.
Honestly, I'm not quite sure why I couldn't have stayed this program a year ago, but obviously there's an answer. There always seems to be. And maybe it had something to do with the world shutting down midsemester last Winter. I don't know what I would have done trying to frantically learn all the technology, not to mention trying to get around and do life necessities like going grocery shopping.
Of course, you never know what might have happened. I would already have been living here when Steph got married and Michael finished his PhD. Instead, my sisters and I went to Europe.
This was just something I've been thinking about over the last few days. I'm supposed to be here in the Instructional Psychology and Technology program at BYU.
Next up; becoming social... somehow.
